THE BOB-BIT
Engstrom Enterprises, Inc. is Home of the Bob-Bit which is a high
performance “claw” type drill bit that enables our customers to save
money by increasing bit life and improving productivity. The Bob-Bit
excels in drilling mud, dirt, and rock compared to other "claw" type bits.
Our specialty is manufacturing standard and non-standard sized
custom bits based upon your specific needs. Our products include
angle hole bits for cast blasting and vertical hole bits for standard
drilling operations. All of our products and services are backed by our
Engstrom family commitment.
INCREASING PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFITS
Our customers have realized an increase in productivity by 30% to 40%
due to the ease and speed of the Bob-Bit. They have also benefited in
drill bit costs that have been as low as tenths of a cent per foot due to
the longevity of the Bob-Bit and the fact that it is 100% rebuildable.
Other benefits include:
THE BOB-BIT DOES NOT PLUG OFF
The air hole is protected and we have drilled through thirty feet of mud
in old creek beds and have not plugged the bit.
THE BOB-BIT DRILLS FASTER IN DIRT AND CLAY
Using a D.E.I. drill indicator to monitor the penetration rate, the bit has
exceeded the maximum read out which is 999 F.P.H. under optimum
drilling conditions. Other bits in the same drilling conditions have only
achieved 650 to 700 F.P.H.
THE BOB-BIT DRILLS ROCKS FASTER
The maximum time spent on a five foot rock was thirty minutes
compared to sixty to ninety minutes with a competitor's bit on a similar
rock.
LARGER DRILL BIT CUTTINGS
- Makes for better stemming. The larger cuttings sink in water and
interlock in the hole to control energy.
- Spend less cutting time in the hole.
- Creates fewer dust emissions.
EASY TO CHANGE TEETH
No special tools are required. All of the backs of the bit blocks are
exposed and all that needs to be done to change out worn or broken
teeth is to use a hammer and punch from the backside to knock them
out.
DESIGN ADVANTAGES
The design of the Bob-Bit allows the operator to come out of the hole
much more easily if the cuttings fall back in on top of the bit. (There is
more open area to allow cuttings to get by the bit.)
THE BOB-BIT IS ABLE TO HANDLE EXCESSIVE PULLDOWN WEIGHT
As much as 50,000 pounds of pulldown has been applied to the Bob-Bit
without destroying the bit.
ADJUSTABLE ORIFICE
The orifice is adjustable for different bit air or fluid pressures.
MACHINED GAUGE RINGS
Gauge rings for bit jigs are machined for accurate and consistent hole
diameters.
DRILL TRAINING
Our company offers specialized hands-on drill training on operating
rotary blast hole drills and down hole hammers. Our training packages
are customized for each client based on their specific needs and goals.
Because of our commitment to our customers, all of our training is
conducted by Bob Engstrom, Founder and CEO, who has more than 20
years of experience as a heavy equipment operator and trainer. During
this time, Bob has drilled millions of feet and shot millions of pounds of
powder in the drill and blast industry.
REPAIR SERVICES
Significant Cost Savings
A major benefit of drilling with the Bob-Bit is that it is100% rebuildable if
the pin and cone remain intact, unlike some other bits used in the
industry.
The repair process includes using the same high-quality parts used to
build a new bit and our customers have recognized a significant cost
savings due to the longevity of the Bob-Bit. All repaired bits have the
same capabilities of longevity and drilling efficiency as a new Bob-Bit at
a fraction of the cost.
Even our most extensive repair (a de-wing) is half the price of a new bit,
which is a cost savings of 50 percent. We’re proud to report that some
of the mines in the Powder River Basin in Wyoming have been using
some of the same pin bodies for more than 12 years.
Repair Process
All bits are cleaned prior to an extensive 4-point inspection, which
includes:
1) checking threads for wear and cross testing;
2) crack testing the wings on the bit;
3) crack testing the bit blocks; and
4) performing a visual inspection of bit blocks for wear.
After the 4-point inspection is completed and a quote is forwarded to
our customers, the most cost effective repair is made to ensure the bit
performs like new for the lowest possible cost. This empowers our
customers to achieve the lowest costs and still maintain a high
performance in drilling rate.
Repair Categories
GAUGE
Remove and replace all bit blocks and hard surface the bit.
(A significant number of repairs usually consist of a gauge and row replacement,
which is the least costly of repairs.)
TOP
Remove and replace all bit blocks and hard surface the bit.
DE-WING
Remove and replace wings, add new bit blocks, and hard surface the
bit.
